How I beat full blown AIDS!
by Sean Williams, Dancer/Choreographer
(Philadelphia, PA)
In 1995, after celebrating my 25th Birthday, I was diagnosed with not only being HIV positive, but as being an AIDS patient with only 17 T cells.
While in the hospital, nothing was working. I began to lose hope and wanted to commit suicide. I was given at least 11 to 14 different medications, the worst one being AZT. The doctors weren't sure how long I was going to live or if the medicines were going to work.
Not only was I frail from the AIDS virus but I also had an ulcer in my esophagus because of a yeast infection, herpes on my tongue and warts on my body, along with hepatitis B. My body felt like it was shutting down rather than getting better. A friend of mine gave me some immune building herbs and within a week my T cells came up just enough for the doctors to send me home.
As I was leaving, a Social Worker gave me a book called There's No Such Thing As A Fatal Disease. I took the book home and began reading it and it gave me hope. It felt like my bible to perfect health. I promised myself as soon as I got strong enough, I was going to attend a workshop and meet this woman (who, by the way, became my angel from God) named Aisha Bey.
I went to the workshop and the minute I walked in the door I knew I was going to be alright. Aisha began to talk about how the body can heal itself naturally and she also talked about life living with AIDS and that AIDS wasn't a death sentence. Aisha's workshop was not about dying with AIDS like most support groups I attended.
She gave everyone at the workshop hope, wisdom and all the herbs, vitamins we needed to get better and a bag of PowerUp that I call the miracle food. I was in tears because at that time I wasn't working and I couldn't afford the nutrients and items that Aisha said would make me better. I rushed home and began doing everything that Aisha said to do so that I could get better. I said to myself I'm not leaving this place without a fight.
I was still going to the doctor's office every two weeks but I was down to 96 pounds and had 25 T cells. The doctor got used to saying "96 pounds and 25 T cells". After starting the herbs and the PowerUp, things began to change tremendously. I went back to the doctor for a visit and the doctor started to say "96 pounds" as I stepped on the scale. But then, he turned and looked at me wide eyed and said "111 pounds". He then sent me to get blood work done and told me to come back in a couple of weeks. When I went back to the doctor’s office he told me my T cells shot up to 101. I knew he was shocked and he did not hide it.
Everyday I got stronger and stronger. I knew that some of the medicines that were given to me had some bad side effects, so I stopped taking the AZT and the other medicines. My bones stopped aching, my hair got coarse again (after becoming wavy because of the AZT), and my muscle tone came back strong. The ulcer healed, the warts went away and my hepatitis virus became undetectable.
It's been 15 years since I've been in the hospital and yes, I still follow Aisha's guidelines. I went from 14 medicines to 3, and when I go get check ups I'm always hearing "you're doing well".
When I look at the other patients I can tell that they don't eat right and that they just take the HIV medicines. I'm not a doctor so I don't tell them to stop taking the meds or to just take herbs, but I do say to them, "try taking these herbs and following these nutritional regimens, so that you can take less meds and combat the meds' side effects". Those that do take the integrative way fare better and look better than those who just take the HIV meds.
Today my phone rings off the hook when my friends find out that they're HIV positive or that they have any ailments, such as cancer or lupus, just to name a few. They can’t believe how good I look at 40 and and have been living with HIV for 15 years. They talk to me and begin to have hope and ask for advice (just as I did with Aisha) so that they too can live a long, healthy life.
God sent me Aisha and she shared her knowledge with me and I’m still here looking better than ever and I want the same for my friends as well as everybody. Thank you Aisha, for showing me the way. I love you, I love you.
