Home remedies for Burns that Actually Work!
One of the most effective home remedies for burns is none other than the amazing aloe vera plant. My first experience with using the aloe plant as a home remedy for burns was many years ago when a neighbor child was burned with hot grease. He had some really nasty burns on his face and neck. I gave him an aloe plant and told him how to use it. He applied the inner gel daily to the burns on his face, but neglected to use it on his neck. | His face cleared up without any scarring whatsoever, but his neck was permanently scarred. The difference between his face and neck was astounding. Since then the aloe plant has been my favorite of the home remedies for burns. | I keep an aloe vera plant in my home for just such an emergency and I advise everyone to always have an aloe plant handy as it is hands down the most powerful of the home remedies for burns that exists. For second or third degree burns, seek medical attention. For all electrical burns, seek medical attention. Before applying aloe, always rinse the area with cold water. This stops the burning action which can continue after the initial burn has occurred. Here's how to use it:
Aloe Vera for Burns
Break off one to three stalks of the plant. Rinse them off. Slice them open on the underside of the leaf. Spread the leaf open to expose the inner gel and then lay the leaf on top of the burn with the gel side down. Secure it with adhesive tape or a bandaid if it's a small burn. Important: As soon as the leaf gets warm (could be just a few minutes), remove it and place another one on the burn. Do this until the leaves no longer get warm when placed on the burn. After this initial application, apply the aloe vera leaves once or twice daily (depending upon the severity of the burn) until the burn has scabbed over and the danger of infection has passed. At the same time, make sure that the burn is exposed to the air for at least a few hours per day. This is important as the burn needs to be allowed to dry out so that it will scab over properly. Once the burn has scabbed over, rinse once or twice a day with peroxide and apply some calendula or tea tree ointment. You can bandage it, but make sure that it still gets exposed to the air for a few hours per day.
